YOUTH & TEEN MENTORING

Mindfulness as a ‘Strategic Intervention’ for your teen or at risk youth population

The brain remodeling happens intensively during adolescence. The part of the brain that is responsible for a teen’s ability to plan and think about the consequences of their actions, solve problems and control impulses is at its peak and it’s associated with emotions, impulses, aggression and instinctive behavior. This is the stage of emotional growth, our teen is learning to discover themselves, who they are and what they want. But too often, they are clouded with all sorts of emotions during this adolescent stage.

Remember how habits are formed? Yes, neuroplasticity! Research shows that almost half of what we do is habitual. Both good and bad habits. What about bad habits such as negative self-talk or labeling? Most of our behaviors are repeated in the ‘same’ scenario. Such as the same circumstance, same people, same time, same location or the same feeling. So, when we do something often enough; in a consistent way; which produces the same feeling; and when this ‘same scenario’ with the same negative feelings are repeated, we label ourselves based on our behavior in a specific situation. Then, once it gets established, our behavior or habits are formed. It becomes automatic. So often, when our teens are in ‘auto-pilot’ mode, they tend to react to the same environmental queues or circumstances instead of responding consciously.

Mindfulness as a ‘Strategic Intervention’ provides teens with a skill when practiced regularly promotes internal organization, increases their self-regulation and promotes their overall self-awareness and well-being. With increased self-regulation, teens are able to Intercept, stop, and think before responding while the increase in self-awareness, helps them to understand and know themselves better, what’s good for them instead of being influenced or steered by social and environmental pressures.

The objective of this intervention is to provide teens with a foundation life-skill to encourage them to make conscious choices and decisions rather than reacting unconsciously (ie. emotions driven actions). Mindful intervention supports teens with a space to respond, allowing them the time to make choices and respond in a composed manner.

Mindful ‘Strategic Intervention’ Mentoring Program for Teens & Youth (Age 12-18 years)

Being a teen can be stressful. The teen years are full of challenging changes, both physically and mentally. Many teens have difficulty dealing with stress in effective ways. Without healthy interventions, they might be prone to anxiety, depression, self-harm, and other physiological and psychological issues.

These personalized 1-1 mentoring sessions are crafted to suit your teen & youth needs incorporating mindfulness, meditation, and thought-based approach to help them deal with teen’s challenges. Your teen will learn specific skills for working with their time-travel thoughts, difficult emotions, and unhelpful behaviors.

My mentoring aims to introduce self-compassion and clarity to support teens & youth in discovering their values and be empowered to make healthy and mindful choices. They will learn to cultivate mindful habits, calmness, and resilience to effectively deal with the challenges and emotional moments they may encounter. In this program, we will explore ways of integrating mindfulness into their everyday activities.

I focus on the areas below :
